Trucker spills hundreds of onions on I-84

Associated Press

BOISE – Idaho authorities said they have cited an Ohio driver who lost control of his tractor-trailer and dumped hundreds of onions across Interstate 84 in south Boise.

Crews worked for more than an hour Tuesday to clean up the mess after Darrell Williams, 50, of Zanesville, Ohio, drifted off the side of the road, spilling yellow onions loaded on his trailer.

Idaho State Police said a panel on the side of Williams’ flatbed trailer broke open as he was trying to regain control of the truck.

No one was injured and no other vehicles were damaged, though eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane for more than an hour near Broadway Avenue as crews used a street sweeper to clean onions off the road.

Police issued Williams a citation that carries a fine of $75.
