University ousts Ferris

University is in, Ferris is out.

Shayla Weiler scored a first-half goal and Zoey Henson added a second-half score to lead the Titans (10-7) to a 2-0 victory over the Saxons (7-8) in a District 8 4A girls soccer playoff game on Wednesday at Albi Stadium.

Weiler’s tally came 32 minutes into the match and Henson’s score came with 4 minutes left to send U-Hi to a Saturday showdown at Albi against top-seeded Mead (12-1) at 1 p.m.

Girls volleyball

Kyona Hunt had three service aces and Ashley Banturler notched three blocks to lead Central Valley to a 25-21, 25-11, 25-11 win over host Rogers in Greater Spokane League play.

The win locks up the third seed to district for the Bears, who will open district at No. 2 seed Mead on Wednesday.

University and Gonzaga Prep will play a tiebreaker at Mt. Spokane on Saturday at 4 p.m. to determine the No. 4 seed. The winner will play at top-seeded Lewis and Clark on Wednesday night at 7.

Women’s soccer

The Whitworth Pirates (12-4-1, 8-4-1) turned a close game into a rout by scoring three second-half goals en route to a 4-0 victory over the Whitman Missionaries (8-7-1, 6-6-1) in Northwest Conference play in Walla Walla.

Whitney Ramsey’s goal staked the Pirates to a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute.

Kelly Baker, Devin Whitmill and Jenny Kryzmowski scored in the second half.

Women’s golf

Idaho Vandals freshman Kayla Mortellaro had a hole-in-one on the 168-yard eighth hole, finishing with a 3-under-par 69 to tie for 22nd place at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. Pepperdine won the team title. Idaho placed 13th.

Women’s volleyball

Meghan De La Rosa had 31 assists and Nicole Graybeal served four aces to lead Community Colleges of Spokane (26-18, 6-5) to a 25-22, 25-14, 25-12 win over host Big Bend (7-18, 2-9) in NWAACC play.
