Chiefs even preseason record with win

 

General manager Tim Speltz liked the Spokane Chiefs’ puck possession on Thursday night.

He also liked the end result – a 3-1 Chiefs victory over the Everett Silvertips at the Tri-City Americans tournament in Kennewick.

Veterans Tyler Johnson, Justin McCrae and Seth Compton scored for Spokane, which improved to 2-2 in the Western Hockey League preseason.

“We played good,” Speltz said by phone following the game. “We were solid on defense and I really liked our puck possession – we had a lot of it.”

Dustin Tokarski made his preseason debut, stopping all four shots he faced in the first period. Backup goalie James Reid made 22 saves in the second and third periods for Spokane.

The Chiefs play Tri-City in Kennewick on Saturday.

Women’s volleyball

Kindra Carlson paced ninth-ranked Washington and led all players with 12 kills as the Huskies swept Gonzaga 25-10, 25-14, 25-16 at the Northwest Challenge in Seattle.

Washington improved to 3-0 overall while the Bulldogs fell to 1-4.

Girls volleyball

Alivia Johnson had six kills and the Lake City Timberwolves swept the Lewiston Bengals 25-22, 25-13, 25-23 at Lake City in the Inland Empire League.

•Also in the IEL, Piper Whalin recorded 15 kills and Sandpoint toppled visiting Post Falls 25-9, 25-20, 25-19.
