You can get Moore for less

Inspired by Neil Young and Radiohead, Michael Moore will release his new film for free online.

“Slacker Uprising” follows Moore’s 62-city tour to rally young voters for the 2004 election.

It will be available for three weeks as a free download to North American residents, beginning Sept. 23, at SlackerUprising.com.

Moore said he considered releasing the film theatrically, like he did with 2004’s “Fahrenheit 9/11,” which was highly critical of President Bush.

Instead, he opted for a symbol of gratitude to his fans as he approaches the 20th anniversary of his first film, 1989’s “Roger & Me.”

“I thought it’d be a nice way to celebrate my 20th year of doing this,” Moore said.

He took notice when Radiohead last year released its seventh album, “In Rainbows,” online with optional pricing.

In 2006, Young streamed his anti-war album “Living With War” for free before its standard release – now a more common practice.

Moore last week released a paperback book, “Mike’s Election Guide 2008,” and is working on a movie for theatrical release next year.

That’s ‘D’ for ‘dangerous’

Kathy Griffin, who shook up a preliminary Emmy ceremony last year with her rowdy acceptance speech, is bringing her act to this year’s prime-time broadcast.

Griffin will join caustic comic Don Rickles to present an award at the Sept. 21 event.

Last year, she joked about Jesus while accepting an Emmy for her reality show, “My Life on the D-List,” at the creative arts ceremony that precedes the main telecast, provoking criticism from Christian groups.

They’ll never land him

Not only will Britney Spears make an appearance at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, but another controversial, comeback-bound pop icon might materialize: Michael Jackson.

“We’ve been talking to him as well,” says MTV’s Van Toffler, adding: “I don’t know if that’s going to happen. People fall in and fall out up until the day of the show.”

Paternity tests have proved that David Spade is the father of a baby girl born last month to his ex-girlfriend, former Playboy Playmate Jillian Grace.

The “Rules of Engagement” star – who, at 44, is 21 years older than Grace – had said he would take responsibility for the child if the test came back positive.
