Service times change at several churches

Back to school means changes for many Valley churches, with different worship schedules and the return of Sunday School classes.

•Sunday is Rally Day at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 115 N. Raymond Road. Services begin at 9 and 11 a.m. and Sunday school classes will begin at 9 a.m. There will be a potluck lunch at 12:30. Those with last names beginning with the letters A-M are asked to bring a salad; letters N-Z are asked to bring a dessert. The church will provide meat and beverages.

•Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will begin its fall worship schedule on Sunday. There will be a service at 9:30 a.m., followed by Christian education classes at 10:45. The church is at 810 S. Sullivan Road.

•Sunday is the Sunday school kickoff at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, but it is also the Grandparents’ Day barbecue. Worship services will begin at 8 and 10 a.m. A book sale will be held throughout the morning and the barbecue will follow the service at 10. The church will provide hamburgers and hot dogs. Those attending are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share.

The church is at 15319 E. Eighth Ave.

Anniversary celebration

Sunday will be a busy day at Zion Lutheran Church. The congregation will return to two services, a traditional service at 8:30 a.m. and a contemporary service at 10:45. The church also will celebrate its 60th anniversary. There will be a cake reception following the service at 8:30 and the Sunday school time at 9:45 will include games, crafts, music and a bounce house.

After the 10:45 service there will be a barbecue picnic in celebration of the church’s anniversary. Several former pastors are expected to be there. Those attending are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share. The church will provide the meat and beverages.

Celebration Sunday

The Veradale United Church of Christ will host a celebration of its faith community with a special service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, followed by a fellowship meal. Those attending are asked to bring salad, dessert or bread to share to go with spaghetti. The church is at 611 N. Progress Road.

Christian Writer’s Conference

The fourth annual American Christian Writers’ Conference is set for Friday and next Saturday at the Mirabeau Park Hotel, 1100 N. Sullivan Road.
