Scoop contest winners named

Scoop Reporter was spotted hiding among advertisements in last week’s Voices by the following seven winners, who are this week’s Honorary Cub Reporters and are eligible to receive free ice cream.

Michael Hill, 11, who attends Cheney Middle School and is the daughter of Barbara Boots, spotted Scoop on page 3 of the West Plains Voice.

Jordan Mulder, 6, who attends Prairie Elementary and is the son of Curt Mulder, found Scoop hiding on page 9 of the North Side Voice. Allegra Vanderwilde, 10, who attends Hutton Elementary School and is the daughter of Carole Vanderwilde, found Scoop on page 2 of the South Side Voice.

Caitlyn Danis, 12, who attends Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy and is the daughter of Kathy Danis, found Scoop hiding on page 4 of the Prairie Voice.

Michael Hannan, 12, who attends Evergreen Middle School. Scoop apparently took a vacation in Thursday’s Valley Voice, but Michael was the first caller and said he found brown dot that resembled a bear on page 2. He is the son of Julie Hannan.

Josie Pickens, 10, who is home-schooled and the daughter of Heidi Pickens, spotted Scoop on page 4 of Saturday’s Valley Voice.

Jacob Seezy, 12, who attends Waldorf School in Sandpoint and is the son of Heidi Dorman, found Scoop on page 3 of the Handle Extra.

Art show in Rotary Park

Local artists will be at the Hayden City/Rotary Park today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the “Their Art, Their Way” show.

Artists will display their current work, have demonstrations and talk about art.

Chili Cook Off at Honda

Coeur d’Alene Honda, 2745 Seltice Way, will present its 12th annual Chili Cook Off to benefit the Children’s Village Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Set-up will be at 9 a.m. and contestants must prepare a minimum of two gallons of chili.

Chili tasting is open to the public for a $5 donation and participants are encouraged to vote for their favorite chili in the People’s Choice category. The first-place award is $350; second place, $250; third place, $150 and the People’s Choice award, $100.

The Children’s Village will be selling hot dogs and drinks.

Coeur d’Alene Honda will donate a 2007 Honda Recon TRX250TE ATV, valued at $3,849, for a raffle. Funds from the ATV drawing will be donated to the Children’s Village. To register for the cook-off, call Mike Scott at 765-5005 or request information by e-mail at bikes@cdahonda.com.

Candidates at NIUU Church

The Idaho Senate and House of Representatives candidates from District 4 in Coeur d’Alene will be at the North Idaho Unitarian Universalist Church at the Harding Family Center, 411 N. 15th St. No 103, on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Citizens will have the opportunity to ask questions of the candidates and hear their comments on the issues facing the community and state. Attorney Michael Wytychak will be the moderator.

Sen. John Goedde, Ken Howard, Tamara Poelstra, Rep. George Sayler and James Hollingsworth will be present. Rep. Marge Chadderdon will be unable to attend.

The event is open to the public.
