LC rallies to defeat Del Oro in Rocky Mountain Rumble

POCATELLO, Idaho – The way Lake City High football coach Van Troxel sees it, the Timberwolves’ 34-33 come-from-behind victory Saturday afternoon over high-powered Del Oro of Northern California may prove to be a win that powers LC forward to bigger and better things.

After spotting the Golden Eagles a 14-0 lead before it had touched the ball on offense, Lake City (2-1) found a way to claw back into the game at Holt Arena.

The game was one of four in what was called the Rocky Mountain Rumble pitting four Idaho schools against four from Northern California. It was Del Oro’s season opener.

After Del Oro scored on its first possession, the Golden Eagles pulled off an onside kick. They quickly turned it into a 14-0 lead.

But LC, behind senior quarterback Adam Fenenbock, began to mount its comeback. Fenenbock frequently found open seams in Del Oro’s defense as he executed LC’s triple-option offense.

Fenenbock finished with rushing touchdowns of 24, 11 and 4 yards and threw a touchdown pass. His TD pass, a 10-yard strike to tight end Billy Sanders, came with 2:19 remaining and proved to be the winner.

Del Oro broke a 27-all tie minutes earlier when quarterback Mason Magelby found Freddie Cargile for an 83-yard TD connection. But Sanders blocked the point-after kick.

“Without a doubt, after last week’s game (a 39-0 loss to Lewis and Clark), it is the turning point for our season,” Troxel said. “We have this win to always come back and build on for the rest of the season, no matter what happens in our next game.”
