Shock set two open tryouts

The Spokane Shock, who made it to the Arena Cup before losing last season, start putting together their 2009 arenafootball2 league team with open tryouts Oct. 11 and Nov. 1.

Oct. 11 will be at the Shock Center, 3212 N. Eden Road, beginning at 8 a.m. Nov. 1 will be at the University of Washington’s indoor practice facility, the Dempsey Center, also beginning at 8 a.m. This will be the first tryout the Shock have held in Seattle.

Cost is $50 with pre-registration, $75 at the door. Registration forms are available at www.spokaneshock.com

Both playing surfaces are turf. Candidates should dress appropriately. The format will be a pro-style combine.

Girls soccer

Amy Andrews had a goal and three assists and Briana Watt scored on a 35-yard shot to lead Bonners Ferry (4-1) to a 7-2 Intermountain League win at Timberlake.

Freshman Rachel Bates’ first high school goal from 8 yards out at 21 minutes proved the winner as St. Maries defeated visiting Priest River 3-1 in an IML match. Sami Gilli scored for Priest River at 59 minutes to ruin the shutout.

Boys soccer

Cody Dickman’s hat trick led St. Maries (3-1) to a 7-0 Intermountain League victory over visiting Priest River.
