Lilac Festival group selects officers

Theme will be ‘I Love a Parade’

“I Love a Parade,” will be the theme of the 2009 Spokane Lilac Festival.

Michael Waldrip, Lilac Festival Association president, made the announcement recently along with the 2008-2009 officers. Waldrip is with the Royal Plaza Retirement Center.

Arne Weinman, of First Team Construction, is president elect; Elizabeth Hooker, with Spokane Teachers Credit Union, is treasurer; and Cecilia Stephens is immediate past president.

Vice presidents of the festival include: area relations, Jamie Dedmon with Spokane Teachers Credit Union; community military, Michael Dedmon with Avista; corporate development, Myron Bursell of Green Gables Photography Studio; director eevelopment, Robyn Baird; float, Richard Logerwell with CI Automation; host, Cecelia Stephens; marketing, Mark Smith with Becker Buick; parade, Sandy Brown with Wandermere Golf Course; and royalty, Karene Garlich-Loman with Tomlinson South.

Community volunteers and directors were honored at the Recognitions Banquet in early September. Kris Buttice and Hal Patton were awarded new directors of the year. In the Shadows Awards were given to community volunteers: Dave and Peggy Pettice, John Fryling, Leanne Brown, and Nancy Carpenter.

The Purple Hammer award was given to Richard Logerwell. Joan Petow, Joan Frank, Dedmon and Pat Cadagan received the Beyond the Call award. The President’s Award was given to Russ Brown, Sandy Brown and Darla DeCristoforo.
