Forest Service officer shot dead near Sequim

Associated Press

SEQUIM, Wash. – The Washington State Patrol has reported the shooting death of a U.S. Forest Service officer near Sequim.

A patrol spokeswoman, Krista Hedstrom, says the officer called the patrol to check on a van without license plates about 2:40 p.m. The officer also asked for information about a man with the vehicle.

Hedstrom says troopers called back and failed to reach the officer, then went to the scene about two miles south of Sequim. They found the officer shot to death and the van was nowhere in sight.

Troopers are looking for a red or gray older Dodge van without license plates.
