Sanders helps Cougs place 4th

 

The Washington State men’s golf team, led by freshman Trent Sanders, took fourth at the Giustina Memorial Classic in Corvallis, Ore., on Tuesday.

The Cougars shot 5-under-par 859 at Trysting Tree Golf Club, finishing six strokes behind winner Oregon State. Sanders, who shot an even-par 72 in the final round, finished at 3-under 213.

Women’s golf

Stephanie Johns shot a final-round 2-under-par 70 to earn medalist honors and lead Portland State University to the team title in The Bulldogs and Eagles Invitational at The Links Golf Club near Post Falls.

Johns finished with a 54-hole total of 225 on the 6,123-yard course, finishing three strokes ahead of teammate Danielle Ranallo and Kaitlin Parker of Western Washington.

Cal Poly took second (927), Gonzaga was third (930) and Eastern Washington was fourth (936). EWU’s Chloe Nelson shot 75 to finish tied for fourth overall and GU’s Sage Suffecool shot a 72 to finish seventh overall (230).

•Washington State took fifth at the Giustina Memorial Classic in Corvallis, Ore., at the Trysting Tree Golf Club. The Cougars shot 939, finishing 31 shots behind winner Oregon State. Cougars senior Amy Eneroth shot a team-best 233 to finish 17 over par.

Volleyball

North Idaho College held off visiting Community Colleges of Spokane 25-22, 27-25, 26-24.

Lydia Tollbom led NIC with 13 kills and Marketa Hazlova added 12. Maddie Dolny had 38 assists. For CCS, Nicole Solum led with nine kills and Alex Cey had 16 digs.

Soccer

The Community Colleges of Spokane’s home men’s and women’s matches weren’t played and will be rescheduled at a later date.
