A sisterly musical collaboration
Power und Beauty brings just that to stage
ID: Power und Beauty is the all-female accordion-driven quartet led by local star Karli Fairbanks.
Style: “Besides our main characteristics being power and beauty, we are also a little bit choral, whimsical, playful, bavarian, waltzy and we consider the croaking of the vegetable steamer as the backbone of our rhythmic foundation. Or you could also describe us as a sisterly collaboration of vocal beauty,” said band member Anna Collins-Wakeman.
Roster: Fairbanks on accordion, vocals and bass drum; Caroline Fowler on vocals, Yamaha keyboard and jingle stick; Sarah Moyer on vocals, vegetable steam and trash can lid; Collins-Wakeman on vocals, glockenspiel, African shaker and tambourine.
Origin: Power und Beauty was formed to perform for Jason Webley’s Monsters of Accordion show last month.
Live show: “Our intent onstage is to delight the audience with something new and hopefully spark a giggle or two. We intend to fascinate the crowd with nostalgic gimmicks such as costumery, stage set props, interesting instruments, and old-timey harmonies. It’s not just live music, it’s soaring through the heavenly realms for 15 minutes, as one of our fans put it,” Fowler said.
Next gig: Tonight at 8 p.m. at Empyrean Coffee House, 154 S. Madison St., with Joel Smith, Jennie Potts, Monuments and Hockey. Cover is $7.
