A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of robbers preying on pedestrians in Spokane’s Logan neighborhood, which includes Gonzaga University.

Three incidents have occurred this year – the two most recent being just after midnight last month. In those two cases, groups of male robbers carried guns, according to Spokane police.

Karen Byrd, head of the Logan Neighborhood Organization, said her group and GU officials are waging a public awareness campaign to encourage walkers to travel sober and in groups, stay off their cell phones and be aware of their surroundings.

Anyone with information can call (800) 222-8477. Anonymous tips are accepted.

Police seeking television thieves

Spokane police are asking for the public’s help in identifying two burglars who stole an LCD television.

The men on Sept. 18 entered Park Tower Apartment, 217 W. Spokane Falls Blvd., where they proceeded to disable one of the security cameras, remove an LCD television from the wall and exit the building, Spokane police said.

Another camera caught the burglars walking up to the television and walking out with it.

Anyone with information on the identity of these suspects is asked to call (509) 242-8477.

Fire damages North Side home

Four adults and five children are being assisted by the Red Cross after a fire broke out in their Spokane home.

The fire was reported about 2:50 p.m. when an occupant noticed smoke and flames near a dryer at 1115 W. Nebraska Ave. in north Spokane, according to the Spokane Fire Department.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke on the first floor and discovered the fire spreading through the basement. Most of the minor damage was caused by smoke, according to fire officials.

Crews rescued four cats and one dog from the home and reported no injuries.
