Brett Favre set a career high and tied Joe Namath’s Jets mark with six touchdown passes, including three to Laveranues Coles, and New York took advantage of a series of mistakes by Arizona in a big second quarter before holding on to beat the Cardinals 56-35 on Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J.

Favre, showing no signs of a left ankle injury that hobbled him during the week, finished 24-for-34 for 289 yards and an interception for the Jets (2-2).

Arizona wide receiver Anquan Boldin was carted off the field after a scary helmet-to-helmet collision with New York safety Eric Smith in the end zone with 27 seconds remaining.

Titans 30, Vikings 17: Rookie Chris Johnson scored two touchdowns and the defense forced four turnovers that the Titans turned into 21 points as Tennessee beat Minnesota at Nashville, Tenn. The Titans improved to 4-0 for the first time in franchise history. Minnesota (1-3) outgained Tennessee 333-275.

Chiefs 33, Broncos 19: Larry Johnson ran for 198 yards and two touchdowns and Kansas City took advantage of four Denver turnovers for a victory over the previously unbeaten Broncos at Kansas City, Mo. It was the first win for the Chiefs since Oct. 21, 2007, a club-record 12 straight losses. Nick Novak kicked three field goals for the Chiefs (1-3), who did not seem to be out of danger until Tony Gonzalez snared a 10-yard touchdown pass that made it 23-13 with 12:40 to go.

Saints 31, 49ers 17: New Orleans running back Deuce McAllister gained 83 yards, converting key third downs and scoring his first touchdown, and the Saints beat San Francisco at New Orleans. McAllister’s power running opened up the passing game for Drew Brees, who was 23-of-35 for 363 yards and three touchdowns.

Panthers 24, Falcons 9: Steve Smith broke two tackles and raced 56 yards for a touchdown. Nearly two months after he broke teammate Ken Lucas’ nose with a sucker punch in training camp, Smith retrieved the ball and handed it to Lucas on the sideline. Smith’s first touchdown following his two-game suspension was part of a dominating day as the cohesive Carolina Panthers beat Atlanta at Charlotte, N.C. The Panthers held Michael Turner, who came in as the league’s top back with 336 yards rushing, to 56 yards on 18 carries.

Browns 20, Bengals 12: With reserve Brady Quinn ready to take over at any time, the embattled Derek Anderson did just enough — and it wasn’t much — to rally Cleveland to a victory at Cincinnati over a winless Bengals team missing its starting quarterback. Anderson threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards that put the Browns (1-3) ahead to stay in the fourth quarter.

Buccaneers 30, Packers 21: Derrick Brooks had one of three interceptions off Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers and also forced a fumble that Jermaine Phillips returned 38 yards for a touchdown, helping the Bucs beat Green Bay at Tampa, Fla. Earnest Graham put away Tampa Bay’s third straight victory with Brian Griese at quarterback, breaking a 47-yard run to the Packers 1 and then scoring on the next play.

Jaguars 30, Texans 27 (OT): Josh Scobee’s 37-yard field goal in overtime gave Jacksonville a victory against winless Houston at Jacksonville, Fla. The Texans were more efficient most of the day. Matt Schaub directed touchdown drives of 91, 80 and 85 yards, and had his first turnover-free game of the season. David Garrard put the Jaguars in position for the winner in overtime, completing a 24-yard pass to Matt Jones on third down to get to the Houston 41, then found Greg Jones in the flat for 22 more yards. Scobee lined up two plays later.

Bills 31, Rams 14: For the first time in 16 years, Buffalo is 4-0. Jabari Greer’s 33-yard interception return on the first play of the fourth quarter was the go-ahead score in an 18-point fourth-quarter salvo that finished off the surprisingly competitive, go-for-broke Rams at St. Louis. Buffalo is 4-0 for the first time since 1992, in the middle of its dominant AFC years.

Chargers 28, Raiders 18: Darren Sproles’ long kickoff return set up Nate Kaeding’s go-ahead 47-yard field goal with 1:51 to play and LaDainian Tomlinson sealed San Diego’s 10th straight win over their AFC West rivals with a 41-yard TD run in a 28-18 victory at Oakland, Calif. The streak by San Diego (2-2) is the longest any team has held against Al Davis’ once-proud franchise. Tomlinson has 21 touchdowns in 15 career games against Oakland, the most any player has had in his first 15 games against any team in NFL history.

Bears 24, Eagles 20: Alex Brown stopped Correll Buckhalter at the goal line late in the game, and the Bears hung on to beat Philadelphia in Chicago. The Eagles (2-2) threatened to take the lead after a 41-yard field goal by the Bears’ Robbie Gould made it a four-point game with 10:28 remaining, launching a 75-yard drive that took nearly seven minutes. Problem was they needed 76. The Bears took over and Matt Forte sealed it with a 10-yard run that gave the Bears (2-2) a first down on their 17.
