Human forearm washes up on shore

A Newman Lake woman found a human arm on her beachfront property over the weekend, and authorities say it’s probably from a woman whose arm was severed in a boating accident four months ago.

The decomposing arm was discovered Friday evening, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputy Shawn Audie responded and determined it was human and probably from the May 28 accident.

Alana Kienel, 27, fell in the lake, and the propeller of a 20-foot Quantum Bow-Rider ski boat severed her arm below the elbow after her husband, Robert W. Kienel, 27, took a hard turn at 30 to 35 mph, police said.

The woman, who survived the accident, was sitting on the newly purchased boat’s bow, which is illegal in Washington, when she fell, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s marine deputies said Robert Kienel was intoxicated at the time of the accident and that it was a contributing factor. He was charged with assault by watercraft, a felony. He has not gone to trial on the charge.

The recovered arm was turned over to the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Driver pleads guilty in death of boy, 10

A driver who killed a 10-year-old boy on Memorial Day in Coeur d’Alene has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and aggravated drunken driving charges.

Ryan A. Jabaay, 32, will be sentenced in mid-December for the crash that killed 10-year-old Sawyer Frisbee and injured his 12-year-old brother, Christian, and their mother, Kaye.

The Frisbees moved to Dallesport, Wash., from North Idaho last year and were in town visiting family for the holiday weekend. At 9:45 p.m. May 26, Kaye Frisbee was turning from Fourth Street to the eastbound Interstate 90 on-ramp when Jabaay’s 2006 Ford F-150 slammed into the family’s 1990 Mazda hatchback. Jabaay’s blood alcohol content was .30, according to Idaho State Police, nearly four times the legal limit. He’s been in the Kootenai County Jail on $750,000 bail since the crash and pleaded guilty Friday.

Sawyer’s father, Pat Frisbee, said his family is doing well and plans to attend Jabaay’s sentencing.

Motorcyclist killed in crash identified

Spokane County Sheriff’s officials have identified the woman killed Sunday in a motorcycle accident.

Tami Ellis, 47, of Spokane, died in a crash on Tucker Prairie Road after her motorcycle struck a tree.

She died of multiple blunt force injuries, according to a news release. Her death has been ruled accidental.
