Churches schedule Palm Sunday services

Sunday is Palm Sunday. Here is a listing of services at some area churches.

Moran United Methodist Church, 3601 E. 65th Ave., will celebrate Palm Sunday with Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. and a worship service with Communion at 10:30 a.m.

The Bell Choir of the church will perform.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 5810 S. Meadowlane Road, will offer Palm Sunday worship with Holy Communion at 8:30 and 11 a.m.

Lenten activities

Manito United Methodist Church, 3220 S. Grand Blvd., will continue its Lenten movie series, “Movies That Made Us Think,” Saturday at 3 p.m.

This week’s movie will be “Schindler’s List.”

Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, 411 S. Washington St., will present organist Scot Stout Sunday at 4 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

Stout will perform music by Bach, Sowerby, Debussy and Franck.

The concert is free, and a reception will follow.

Atheism discussion

Manito Presbyterian Church will hold a panel discussion, “The New Atheism and Religious Belief: An Open Conversation,” Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main Ave.

Panelists include Andy Braks, adjunct philosophy instructor at Spokane Falls Community College; Donald Clegg, a writer; Leonard Oakland, an English professor at Whitworth University; and Cate Siejk, an associate professor of religious studies at Gonzaga University.

The discussion will be led by Todd Cioffi, an assistant professor of theology at Whitworth.

Volunteer opportunity

Catholic Charities Spokane will hold another volunteer informational session Wednesday from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Catholic Charities Family Center, 12 E. Fifth Ave.

Lunch will be provided.
