Popular Post Falls elk statue vandalized

Coeur d’Alene Press
Post Falls authorities are on a unique sort of elk hunt. The search is on for those responsible for toppling and damaging the life-sized elk statue that has adorned the front of the G.W. Hunters restaurant in Post Falls for more than five years. Restaurant owner Dave Swanson says the concrete and foam statue has a replacement value of about $4,000. He says earlier this week, vandals tore off the antlers, snapped a leg and shattered its ears. Swanson says he is offering a reward for any information that produces an arrest in the case. But he says he’s not likely to pay for another elk statue. The elk statue was a popular draw for family photographs and taxidermists studying how to make their own mounts more realistic.
