Churches plan Holy Week, Easter services

This week is Holy Week, leading up to Easter Sunday celebrations. Many Valley churches are hosting special services and other events on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

• The Spokane Valley Adventist Church will host regular performances of “Journey to the Cross,” beginning Friday. More than 200 actors will present a re-enactment of Christ’s life outside the church at 16th Avenue and Sullivan Road. Shows will begin every 15 minutes, from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday through Sunday, April 12. Each tour will last 30 minutes. Admission is free.

•The Veradale United Church of Christ, 611 N. Progress Road, will host a simple soup and bread supper at 6:30 p.m. Thursday followed by a Maundy Thursday worship service.

•Members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will meet in the Adams Elementary parking lot on 14707 E. Eighth Ave. at 8:30 a.m. Sunday (weather permitting) and have a procession of the palms to the church at 810 S. Sullivan Road. A Palm Sunday worship service will follow at 9:30 a.m.

The church will host a 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday service with communion and foot washing. The service will be preceded by a soup supper at 6. A Good Friday service will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

•St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 304 S. Adams Road, will host the Stations of the Cross at noon on Friday. The Tri-Parish event will include members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.

•The Valley Church of the Nazarene, 15515 E. 20th Ave., will host 7 p.m. services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

•Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye Ave., will offer 7 p.m. services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. The church will also hold a meditation of the cross at 12:10 p.m. Friday.

•A Good Friday service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church, 4124 N. Harvard Road. The church will also host a community Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m. next Saturday. The hunt, which is open to the public, is for toddlers through fifth- graders.

•A Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway. The church will also host an Easter Vigil service at 7 p.m. next Saturday.

•Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2511 S. Pines Road, will have a Good Friday service at 7 p.m.

•A 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday service will be preceded by a soup supper at 6 Thursday at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Road. The church will also have a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. Friday.

•The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 15319 E. Eighth Ave., will have a Maundy Thursday service with foot washing at 7 p.m. Thursday. A healing service will begin at 7 p.m. on Good Friday and an Easter Vigil service with baptisms will start at 7 p.m. next Saturday.

•Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road, will host a Good Friday service at 7 p.m.

•Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 115 N. Raymond Road, will have 7 p.m. services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

Jews for Jesus

The Jews for Jesus organization will present “Christ in the Passover” during the 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services Sunday at Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road. The presentation will include information on Jewish customs and will feature foods that are traditionally eaten during Jewish Passover celebrations.
