Spokane police training new dog
Spokane police are training a new police dog to replace one that was nearly killed in the line of duty.
A German Shepherd named Rav is in training to become a new K-9 asset for the Spokane Police Department.
He will replace Var, an eight-year veteran who was shot in the face and leg when a traffic stop turned into a deadly shooting last month. Var has retired.
Rav is a 3-year-old German Shepherd from Holland who is going through an eight-week training course.
His handler, Officer Dan Lesser, said Rav is Var spelled backward.
