CCS splits baseball doubleheader

Community Colleges of Spokane’s Martin Aguirre scattered nine hits and picked up the win Wednesday afternoon as the Sasquatch dumped Walla Walla Community College 7-2 in the opening game of an NWAACC doubleheader in Walla Walla.

CCS (11-9, 3-7 East Region) dropped the second game 13-2 as the Warriors (18-9, 5-5) pounded out three home runs.

Greater Spokane League: Reliever Ryne Leonard worked out of one-out, bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh inning and picked up the save as Mt. Spokane (4-4,) saddled visiting Mead (5-1) with a 4-2 loss. Wildcats starter and winner Stevie Turningrobe scattered seven hits and gave up one earned run in six innings, and teammate Cory Plaggerman rapped a couple of hits and scored a big run in the sixth inning to pace the offense.

•Inland Empire League: Coeur d’Alene (7-5, 2-2) backed the three-hit pitching of Jake Pereira with a five-run sixth inning and breezed past visiting Sandpoint (3-5, 0-4) 7-3. Pereira struck out three and did not allow an earned run, while Jackson Seaman and Devon Austin paced the Vikings’ offense with two hits and two RBIs each.

•Great Northern League: Cheney’s Dennis France, Logan Hennessy and Cameron Lowe each had three hits in support of teammate Rick Heuschkel’s five-hit pitching as the Blackhawks (6-1, 3-1) blasted visiting Deer Park (2-3, 1-3) 16-1.

Greater Spokane League: Danielle Lynn drove in three runs with a first-inning homer and a walk-off single in the bottom of the seven to help lift Shadle Park (5-1) to a 4-3 win over visiting Gonzaga Prep (1-6), which got a 13-strikeout effort from losing pitcher Julia Rambo.

Greater Spokane League: Mead’s Nick Hamer scored a first-half goal off a corner kick by Chance Johnstone and the visiting Panthers (3-1, 3-1) made it stand up for 1-0 victory over University (6-1, 3-1). The Titans lost for the first time this season and fell out of a tie for first place in the league standings. … Brad Pelton and Colin Schaefer both scored off free kicks and goaltender Garrett Brickey turned away nine shots as North Central (3-3, 2-1) edged Mt. Spokane (1-2, 1-2) 2-1 at Albi Stadium. … Alex Cutter took a crossing pass from teammate Jon Perez and scored a second-half goal – the only one of the match – in leading visiting Ferris (3-2, 1-1) to a 1-0 victory over Gonzaga Prep (2-4, 1-4). … Central Valley got a goal from Holden Newberg just before the end of the first half and another from Robert Wulf in the 72nd minute as the Bears (5-0, 3-0) slapped a 2-0 loss on visiting Shadle Park (1-4, 0-4). … Andreas Andersson scored a pair of goals and Tony Buckley Jones added his first GSL goal and an assist as Lewis and Clark (4-2, 4-0) rolled to a 7-0 win over Rogers (1-5, 1-4) at Albi Stadium and moved into sole possession of first place in the league standings.

Greater Spokane League: Both the season-opening girls and boys events scheduled to be played at The Fairways at West Terrace were postponed until May 8 because the course was unplayable.
