GNL Preview Softball

Defending champion Colville lost only three games last year while finishing fourth in State 2A. The Indians have graduated seven seniors, two of them now playing regularly in college, and will play a different style this year. Returning state qualifiers Pullman and West Valley split in their season-opening twin bill and Clarkston won twice over Cheney.

Pitching

Last year’s top four finishers – the Colville Indians, Pullman Greyhounds, West Valley Eagles and Clarkston Bantams – bring back their staffs.… Makayla Carr, Colville, and Rachel Meagley, WV, were first-team All-GNL. … Pullman’s Erika Hanson, a lefty, was first-team as designated hitter. … Clarkston brings back Riley Swanson and Colville returns Alison Holst, both juniors who were second-team all-league.

Position players

Colville brings back first-team all-league outfielder Jennica Ebel and first baseman Moe Stuart, who will be surrounded primarily by sophomores and freshman. … Pullman returns first-team all-league infielder Amy Sterk, one of the league’s best hitters, and second-teamers infielder Jordan Levenseller, catcher Katie Guettinger and outfielder Raina D’Aleo, all juniors. … Other standouts are Riverside’s Jolene Millspaugh and Payton McMahon; Cheney’s Vanity Thomas and Marissa Young, and Deer Park’s Melissa Brown.

Outlook

Don’t expect the standings to change much this year. Colville has been at the top for years with Pullman, West Valley and Clarkston usually chasing the Indians. Last year Cheney and Riverside tied behind them, followed by Medical Lake and Deer Park.
