Say no to new taxes
I found it ironic that The Spokesman-Review would lecture Idaho about their bad roads and bridges (“Remiss with repairs,” April 2) knowing that Spokane’s streets and roads are some of the worst in the nation.
Even more astonishing is the suggestion that Idaho lawmakers pass a tax increase in secret, thinking that the citizens of Idaho wouldn’t notice. I assure you I would! This coming from an institution whose life blood is the First Amendment, and its duty to pursue and demand transparency in government. The S-R has never met a tax increase it did not embrace, yet is asking for tax-exempt status to stay afloat.
Let us not forget our governor accepted the $1.2 billion stimulus payout from the feds. While I disagree with this decision, some of these monies should fix our roads and create jobs without a tax increase.
Is it any wonder that newspapers across the country are failing? Say no to higher taxes! See you at the Tea Party.
