Invitation to squatters

The Spokesman-Review

Put out the word, all the homeless people can move into any vacant house or apartment and be protected by the Landlord-Tenant Act. Well, at least in Spokane Valley.

It is a sad day in our community when our own Police Department gives aid and advice to some squatters.

Don Bain and his wife (“Couple want backyard back,” April 17) did not invite these people to move into their property, they do not have a contract nor have they received any rent or compensation for the use of their property.

With the advice these officers gave does this mean that anybody can move into any vacant property and be protected by our police under the guise of the Landlord-Tenant Act?
