Traded The Buffalo Bills agreed Friday to trade left tackle Jason Peters to the Philadelphia Eagles rather than risk another off-season holdout from their disgruntled two-time Pro Bowl player. In exchange, the Bills will receive the 28th overall pick – the second of the Eagles’ two first-round picks – and a fourth-round selection in next week’s NFL draft.

Retained His work as an interim coach complete, Ed Tapscott will remain in the Washington Wizards organization. Team president Ernie Grunfeld announced that Tapscott will stay with the Wizards in a role yet to be determined. Tapscott was Washington’s director of player development before Grunfeld fired coach Eddie Jordan after a 1-10 start. Tapscott was put on the bench and went 18-53.

•Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff and general manager Darcy Regier are staying put. Managing partner Larry Quinn said that both will be back next season, calling it “absolutely the best move for our franchise” despite the Sabres missing the playoffs for a second straight year.

Recovering Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge won’t be at the team’s playoff opener after his minor heart attack. Team spokesman Jeff Twiss said that Ainge is resting comfortably and could be released from Massachusetts General Hospital by Sunday.

Selected Canadian Soccer Association technical director Stephen Hart has been appointed coach of Canada’s soccer team for the rest of the year. Hart was made interim coach and temporarily replaces Dale Mitchell, who was fired last month after the team failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
