Huskies offense shines in scrimmage

SEATTLE – Jake Locker pump-faked, badly fooling a pair of defenders, then floated a 26-yard touchdown pass to Devin Aguilar.

That was one of the highlights of Washington’s scrimmage Saturday afternoon, held in front of approximately 1,600 fans, but for much of the day, the focus was on running the ball. The Huskies ran only a bit more than they passed – there were 37 runs and 34 pass attempts – but certain drives showed the desire of the coaching staff to focus on the ground game.

“Today as a whole there was an emphasis to run the ball a little bit,” said Locker. “I thought we had a pretty good running game … that helped our offense really flow today.”

Locker and the No. 1 offense had a good day, scoring three TDs and a field goal on its five possessions. Locker completed 10 of 16 passes for 133 yards, one TD and one interception.

Chris Polk finished with 43 yards on eight carries, including a 1-yard touchdown run.

Willie Griffin added 35 rushing yards on four carries, and Demitrius Bronson had 25 yards, including a 7-yard score, on five carries.
