Packages assembled for soldiers

Students at Northwest Christian Schools are putting together personal care items for soldiers in Iraq.

Laura Shearer, a math teacher at Northwest Christian, has taken a special interest in the project because her brother is serving.

Shearer organized a drive for personal care items and her students became immediately involved.

Each class has taken turns collecting items for the soldiers. They gather razors to candy to Q-tips, and every student also writes a letter of thanks to the soldiers.

The senior class will make their final collection for the school year next week. Boxes will be shipped May 1.

According a press release from the school, three shipments of care packages have been sent to Iraq from the students, which included 30 boxes of personal care items. Also according to the release, Shearer finances the shipping by selling Tootsie Pops in her classroom.

Late end, early start to school
