In brief: Armstrong suffers mild heart attack

State Rep. Mike Armstrong, R-Wenatchee, was recuperating Thursday from a heart attack that sent him to the hospital Wednesday night.

An angioplasty Thursday cleared a blockage in one of the blood vessels to Armstrong’s heart, House spokesman John Sattgast said.

Armstrong, 51, was walking up steps at the governor’s mansion, where he was receiving a state parks award Wednesday, when he suddenly felt weak. A state trooper in a nearby guardhouse sat Armstrong down and called for an ambulance.

Armstrong “just wanted to keep going,” Sattgast said. Doctors at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia found that Armstrong had suffered a mild heart attack, Sattgast said.

“He’s been alert and he’s been talking” to his legislative aide, he said.

S-R available on Kindle device

The Spokesman-Review is now available on Kindle, Amazon.com’s wireless digital reading device.

The first Kindle edition of the newspaper was available Wednesday.

Subscriptions to the Kindle edition cost $5.99 a month, less than the newspaper’s print and online subscriptions. A 14-day free trial is available.

The Kindle edition contains articles found in the print edition, but not some images, tables and preprinted advertising. Other features, such as crossword puzzles and classified ads, are currently unavailable.

Issues of the newspaper are delivered wirelessly so they can be read each morning, just like print copies. “Being Kindle-enabled adds a full-function, nationwide wireless dimension to our print, online and mobile reach – a big step forward in our evolution as a 21st century, multiple-platform news provider,” said Shaun O’L. Higgins, The Spokesman-Review’s director of sales and marketing.

The book-size Kindle weighs 10.2 ounces, runs without recharging for long periods and can access newspapers, magazines and about 270,000 downloadable books. It costs about $359 on Amazon.com.
