Man found dead near Riverfront Park

Spokane police are investigating the death of a man found Thursday on a riverbank north of downtown. The man, who has yet to be identified, was found unconscious on a hillside in an area of Riverfront Park known as Veteran’s Court, just above the Spokane River falls. A witness walking by called for help when she noticed the man slumped over on the hill between Monroe and Post on Bridge, about 5 p.m. The Spokane Fire Department responded, and attempted to revive the man, who police say was in his mid-20s. Spokane police Officer Brian Eckersley said there appeared to be “no signs of any kind of foul play,” but major crimes detectives were called to investigate. The hillside where the man was found was littered with debris, and looked like it may have been a squatting site used by transients.
