Accountability was the aim

The Spokesman-Review

Kathy Swehla wrote a beautiful letter (April 19) about her love of taxes and what they provide for all of us.

However, the positive intent of the tea parties has been distorted into a negative “anti-tax rally.”

We need taxes to have functioning governments. The tea parties were a gathering of concerned Americans wanting accountability on spending for said taxes instead of just taking more from the citizens that are already giving. Our representatives need to step back and quit spending as if there are no limits to resources – as we all have had to do!

That, my fellow citizens, was the purpose of the tea parties. Too bad a few have decided to cast a negative light on a positive intent.
