Debt will last generations

The Spokesman-Review

The people at the tea parties behaved better than many protesters, and they actually seemed to be enjoying themselves. These people are fed up with the government’s irresponsible spending and borrowing that is almost certain to lead to higher taxes in the long run. Citizens have good reasons to oppose the taking of their money to bail out unsuccessful corporations, or to reward those who supported successful political campaigns. They have excellent reason to oppose laying debt on their children and grandchildren.

The American traditions of self-reliance, entrepreneurship and private charity have been weakened by the growth of the welfare state, and they are further threatened. Government can never match the efficiency and creativity of private enterprise, nor can it have the true compassion of private charity.

Too many politicians have told us that redistributing our wealth benefits society. Actually, it punishes hard work, rewards idleness, weakens the economy, makes people dependent on the government and gives politicians more power over us. We need a government that does what is truly best for the country, not what increases the power of politicians.
