Prep roundup: Lake City boys share team title at invite

Tanner Schalk and Logan Frederickson were double winners at Lake City as the host Timberwolves shared the boys team title with Mountain View at the Lake City Invite on Saturday. Both teams finished with 135 points.

Schalk won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.36 seconds and the 300s in 39.87. Frederickson posted season-best times of 1:58.32 in the 800 and 4:24.86 in the 1,600. Jared Heston won the shot with a throw of 49 feet, 9 inches and Nathan Hayden’s 144-2 took first in the discus.

In the girls meet, Mountain View (134 points) held off Post Falls (127) for the team title. Trojans individual winners were Shaundra Scott (13.29 in the 100), Becca Bauman (126-11 in the discus) and Allison Meehan (33-1 in the triple jump). Post Falls’ 1,600 relay team of Anyslee Stuart, Angie Whalen, Josie Tennison and Meehan claimed first place in 4:13.64, bettering its season best by more than 3 seconds.

Prosser Rotary Invite: Kendra Szoke won the long jump (16-7) to help Central Valley’s girls to third place. CV’s boys also took third as Tanner Markham won the long jump (21-21/2).

Baseball

Inland Empire League: Devin Austin homered in both games as host Coeur d’Alene (17-6, 12-3 IEL) crushed Moscow 13-3 and 17-1. In the first game, JJ Turbin scored four runs to break the single-season school record. The previous mark was 34. Turbin, who hit a three-run homer in the second game, finished the day with six runs scored and 39 for the season. Alex Krapas had three RBIs in the opener. Jackson Seaman and Ryan Dunton combined for six hits in the second game. … Brice Olin homered and Cole Tonnemacher went 2 for 4 with an RBI as visiting Sandpoint (8-14, 3-8) defeated Post Falls 5-2. The Trojans (6-14, 3-11) won the second game 9-3 as Cody Clark had a two-run single and Nikk Reinhardt pitched a six-hitter. Reinhardt also scored two runs.

•Intermountain League: Bonners Ferry (11-5, 6-3 IML) tightened its grip on second place with a pair of road wins against Timberlake (6-12, 4-7) at Spirit Lake. Zach Roberts had five hits and five RBIs in Bonners Ferry’s 5-2, 10-7 wins. Zach Maas belted a two-run homer in the opener. Robbie Burns delivered a two-run single for the Badgers in the second game. The Tigers’ Kyle Overland had three hits and drove in three in the second game. … Richard Broddus, Gavin Strader and John Bower each had two hits as Kellogg beat St. Maries 8-3. Broddus drove in three runs and Bower had two RBIs for the Wildcats (7-8, 4-8). St. Maries (5-9, 4-7) earned a split as Matt Corsi and Brett Anderson slapped two-run hits in the fifth inning, sparking a 7-4 victory. Corsi evened his record at 2-2 by limiting the Wildcats to seven hits. … League-leading Orofino (15-1, 13-1) thumped visiting Priest River 10-0 in a run-rule shortened game. The Spartans dropped to 3-9, 3-8.

Softball

Inland Empire League: Post Falls erupted for 28 runs and 29 hits to sweep visiting Sandpoint 12-1 and 16-0. Richelle Ashburn smacked a three-run homer and Angela Barr had three hits and three RBIs to spur the Trojans’ 12-1 win in the opener. Blake Meredith and Jordan Schoening each had three hits and Lindsey Brunette tossed a shutout in just her second varsity start as Post Falls (17-5. 9-5 IEL) rolled 16-0 in the second game. … Coeur d’Alene (13-7 overall) evened its IEL record at 7-7 with an 11-1, 1-0 sweep of visiting Moscow. Jessica Craft and Jessica Eppers combined for four RBIs and Kathy Comack struck out nine Bears to carry CdA in the first game. Amber Coburn gave up one hit and fanned 15 in the second game. Krissy Chisse doubled and scored on Amanda Brouillard’s single in the third inning.

•Intermountain League: First-place Timberlake (16-5, 12-0 IML) clobbered visiting Bonners Ferry 15-1 and 11-0 at Spirit Lake. In the opener, Halee Edelblute drove in four runs with a homer, double and single and pitcher Afton Allred had 14 strikeouts to hike her record to 11-1. Megan Hill had three hits and five RBIs to lead the Tigers’ 12-hit attack in the second game. Nicole Cameron gave up just two hits in a five-inning shutout. … Doris Sines had a two-run double and Bree Arrhenius had a two-run single as St. Maries (9-8, 8-2) pulled away from Kellogg 9-2 to earn a doubleheader split. Kayla Stapleton struck out 10 and walked none to earn her seventh win of the season. In the opener, the Wildcats (3-6, 1-5) relied on pitcher Michaela Stewart, who gave up a leadoff single and held the Lumberjacks hitless the rest of the way. Cody James knocked in the go-ahead run in the seventh with a two-out double.

Golf

Dominion Meadows Boys Invite: Three Lewis and Clark players shot between 74 and 76 as the Tigers finished first at Dominion Meadows Golf Course in Colville. Peter Gullickson (74), Justin Haase (75) and Christian Alfaro (76) sparked the Tigers. Gonzaga Prep’s Ron Siebly was medalist with a 72. Mead, paced by Matt Penny’s 76, took second place. Third-place Colville was led by Casey Cox’s and Phil Bateman’s 75s.

•Intermountain League: Carey Reynolds’ 75 was the low round of the day, helping Bonners Ferry win the IML match at Pinehurst Golf Course. The Badgers’ Derrick Alt shot 80. Kellogg was second and Jordan McKinney’s 78 helped Priest River take third. Kelsey Harden’s 89 and Erin Redmond’s 97 paced the Kellogg girls to victory. Maddie Hauck shot 102 for second-place Timberlake.
