The Seattle Mariners at Chicago White Sox game scheduled for Monday in Chicago was postponed due to rain and will be made up today as part of a doubleheader beginning at 2:05 p.m.

Frischknecht signs with Redskins

Former Washington State tight end Devin Frischknecht has signed a free-agent contract with the Washington Redskins.

Frischknecht played the past two seasons for the Cougars after transferring from Snow College.

Last season, he caught 17 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown. As a junior, he caught 18 passes for 191 yards and three touchdowns.

Cougars get date in Manhattan

Washington State will take on Kansas State on Dec. 5 in Manhattan, Kan., in the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series, the two conferences announced Monday.

The Cougars are 1-1 in the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series, which is in its third year.

WSU is 2-2 all-time against Kansas State, having won the last meeting, 58-57, on Dec. 3, 2005 in Pullman.

The majority of the 12 games in the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series are Dec. 3-6.

Washington will play at Texas Tech on Dec. 3 and at home against Texas A&M on Dec. 22.

Jayson Williams tasered by police

Former NBA star Jayson Williams was zapped with a stun gun by police in his swank hotel suite Monday after the reportedly suicidal athlete resisted attempts by officers to take him to a hospital.

Police were called to the hotel in lower Manhattan’s Battery Park City neighborhood around 4 a.m. when a female friend reported the former New Jersey Nets player was acting suicidal.

When officers arrived, the 6-foot-10, 325-pound Williams appeared drunk and agitated, police said. There were empty bottles of prescription drugs strewn around his disheveled suite and several suicide notes.

Officers with the Emergency Services Unit, an elite team trained to deal with emotionally disturbed people, responded and stunned Williams with a Taser after he resisted attempts to be hospitalized.

A spokeswoman for Williams, Judy Smith, had no immediate comment Monday. A telephone call to his attorney, Joseph Hayden, was not immediately returned.

It’s the latest in a series of public troubles for the 41-year-old former All-Star, who played nine seasons with the Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers before retiring in 2000.

Williams was convicted in 2004 of trying to cover up the shooting death of his hired driver in February 2002.
