Scheming no surprise
I saw in the headlines that the feds are investigating “the first major disclosure of corruption in the $750 billion financial bailout program.” In response, they’ve “opened 20 criminal probes” of various crimes.
Does this really surprise anyone? Con artists have been ripping off people – including some very bright people – for years. Since government officials are no smarter than the rest of us, and since their salaries aren’t cut when they screw up, you can expect fraud in government-run programs to be even greater than fraud in the private sector.
It will be years before the full extent of the fraud and damage will be known, but the Bush/Obama doctrine of rewarding bad decisions by giving massive bailouts (financed by deficit spending) to those who make bad decisions is shaping up to be one of the biggest disasters in this country’s history.
