Robbers take teen’s wallet and shoes; police arrest 2

Two robbery suspects were arrested by Spokane police Wednesday night after officers used a police dog to locate one of the suspects near Driscoll Boulevard in northwest Spokane. The 17-year-old boy who was robbed reported the incident to his father, who quickly went into action to prevent the robbers from getting away, police said. A neighbor called police. The victim said he was at Greenwood Boulevard and Olympic Place when two teens confronted him about 9 p.m. They took his wallet and shoes at gunpoint, according to police. After the robbery, the dad started searching the neighborhood and found one of the suspects at a nearby Driscoll One Stop, 4203 N. Driscoll Blvd. The clerk there told officers that he saw two suspects matching the description of the robbers a few minutes earlier. A pellet gun believed used in the robbery was found hidden behind the store. K-9 Officer Craig Hamilton and his K-9 partner, Leonitis, followed a track to the second suspect, a 17-year-old boy, several blocks away. The teen, who was wearing the victim’s shoes, was booked into the county juvenile detention center. The other suspect, Patrick A. Wardell, 18, was booked into Spokane County Jail on a robbery charge.
