Done Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Maake Kemoeatu and Cincinnati Bengals tight end Reggie Kelly were placed on injured reserve, ending their seasons, as both had surgery to repair injured Achilles’ tendons. Both are starters.

Met Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth, suspended indefinitely for killing a pedestrian while driving drunk, met in New York with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about a possible reinstatement, according to media reports. Stallworth was recently released from jail after serving 24 days for a DUI conviction.

Arrested Starting Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Juqua Parker was arrested on a marijuana possession charge near the team’s training camp in northeast Pennsylvania.

Signs Wide receiver D.J. Hackett signed with the Washington Redskins, giving the team another option for the No. 5 receiver spot. Hackett had been looking for work since the Carolina Panthers released him in February. He previously played three years with the Seattle Seahawks, where current Redskins head coach Jim Zorn was an assistant.

Returning Forward Brendan Shanahan, 40, signed a one-year deal with the New Jersey Devils, keeping him with the team that drafted him second overall in 1987.

Retires Defenseman Teppo Numminen is retiring after 20 seasons in the NHL. The 41-year-old Finn was an unrestricted free agent after playing the last four seasons in Buffalo. He also had stops in Winnipeg, Phoenix and Dallas during his career.

Joining American striker Jozy Altidore, 19, said he has joined Premier League club Hull, subject to a work permit being granted.

Sentenced Former University of Montana football player Cody von Appen was given a three-year deferred sentence and 21 days in jail for this role in an assault last September that left a UM student unconscious and with a broken jaw. Von Appen is the son of former assistant coach Fred von Appen.
