Scheduled Former New York Giants star Plaxico Burress will be arraigned Aug. 20 on a weapons charge for shooting himself in the thigh at a New York City nightclub. Burress was indicted Monday on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of reckless endangerment. He faces a minimum prison sentence of 31/2 years if convicted.

Traded The Denver Nuggets swapped Steven Hunter, a protected 2010 first-round pick and cash to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for a future conditional second-rounder. The trade could give Memphis three first-round selections in the 2010 draft.

Resigned DePauw University football coach Matt Walker has resigned, and Robby Long has been named interim head coach. Walker had been the football coach for the past three seasons and had been the Greencastle, Ind., school’s head baseball coach since 2000.

Abandoned The only suspect to plead guilty so far in the slaying of Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor told a judge he is abandoning an effort to withdraw his plea. Venjah Hunte, 21, made the decision after a private meeting with his attorney and his mother, who burst into loud sobs when he was led into the Miami courtroom.

Delayed Austrian tennis player Tamira Paszek will not be suspended while officials investigate whether a medical treatment she received for a back injury violated doping regulations. The disciplinary committee of Austria’s anti-doping agency said that Paszek can play on the WTA Tour at least until a verdict is reached.

Dismissed Sport’s highest court has dismissed an appeal by Kazakh cyclist Andrei Kashechkin against a two-year ban for blood doping shortly after he was kicked out of the 2007 Tour de France. The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland, upheld the suspension imposed by the Kazakhstan Cycling Federation.

Died Long Island University announced that Dick Holub, a member of LIU’s 1941 NIT championship team and a longtime coach at Fairleigh Dickinson, has died. He was 87. Holub died July 27 in Sun City West, Ariz. The 6-foot-7 Holub helped the 1940-41 Blackbirds to a 25-2 record.
