Fall start probable on Post Falls Wal-Mart, Love’s

Construction of the new Wal-Mart and Love’s Travel Stop planned for the west side of Post Falls should start this fall. Finalization of plans and traffic analyses evidently remain the final hurdles for the stores.

The 147,000-square-foot Wal-Mart near Cabela’s would not replace the existing store on the east side of town. That store eventually may become a Sam’s Club, Wal-Mart’s membership warehouse store similar to Costco, although several municipalities that are Post Falls’ size have more than one regular Wal-Mart.

Originating in 1962, Wal-Mart has more than 8,000 stores and 2.1 million employees in 15 countries. The usual store has about 200 employees. Wal-Mart’s headquarters is in Bentonville, Ark. Check www.walmart.com.

The site plan to Love’s Travel Stop includes a 6,453-square-foot country store, a 2,485-square-foot fast-food restaurant (still to be determined), an eight-pump semi-truck fuel station, a 16-pump automobile fuel station and a truck tire maintenance station. The complex will be on 9.5 acres west of Pleasant View Road and between Expo Parkway and Interstate 90. The plan includes off-street parking for 64 cars and 73 semi-trucks and landscaped areas with 57 trees. A former Subway building on the property will be demolished. The complex will employ about 30 people.

Founded in 1964 and with its headquarters in Oklahoma City, Love’s Travel Stops are in 222 locations in 30 states. The Post Falls store will be the first in the Inland Northwest, although the company has two stores in Oregon and one in Heyburn, Idaho. Check www.loves.com.

1210 Tavern to open this week

A 1210 Tavern replacing the business and building destroyed by fire last year should open this Friday at, well, 1210 Sherman Ave., Coeur d’Alene. The 3,000-square-foot sports bar replaces the former tavern, the China Gate restaurant and a barbershop. The game store on the corner was in a neighboring building, which was demolished.

The tavern will include four large-screen TVs and seating for 72 customers. A kitchen may be added later. Owner Jess Jensen and seven employees will serve beer and wine; liquor may be added later. Jensen was born and raised in Coeur d’Alene. Hours at 1210 will be 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily.

This week’s tidbits

•Mark your calendar for the Parade of Homes this weekend and next, Coeur d’Alene’s Artwalk this Friday, the CdA Wooden Boat Show Aug. 21-23 and the Kootenai County Fair Aug. 26-30.

•Friday night traditionally is “North Idaho folks’ night” at Art on the Green. The ballroom skills of young and old dancing to big-band music by Tuxedo Junction was surprising. What a wonderful event along with the fun in the City Park and on Sherman Avenue!

•A new store called Strategy & Games will be opening in Silver Lake Mall. The shopping center has an uncomfortable 17 vacancies.

•Dr. David Moss has opened Moss Family Dentistry in the Coeur d’Alene Pediatrics Building at 9095 N. Hess St. in Hayden. Phone (208) 772-4500.

•It’s great to listen to the Mariner baseball games on our local KVNI Radio (A.M. 1080) , but how many years must we hear the same Super 1 Foods commercial?
