Fire along I-90 slows traffic near Spokane

A grass-and-timber fire sent smoke over Interstate 90 near Spokane and caused intermittent lane closures on westbound lanes, the Washington State Patrol reported this afternoon. The fire was called in shortly after noon and started in the vicinity of milepost 276 on the north side of the freeway near the Geiger Boulevard exit.. The state patrol, the state Department of Transportation and fire crews responded to the scene, and the fire was brought under control after more than an hour.
