White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen had a warning for the rest of the league: Hit our players and our pitchers will retaliate.

Guillen was upset Sunday after Paul Konerko, Scott Podsednik and Gordon Beckham were hit by pitches by the Cleveland staff a night earlier in Chicago’s 8-5 win. Guillen acknowledged he didn’t think the Indians were throwing at them, but he’s had enough of watching his players get hit.

“Yesterday I get upset, they hit one guy and they throw in into another guy. I got upset. I know for a fact they’re not throwing at nobody, but enough is enough,” Guillen said. “I have Konerko bruised all over the place. Around the league, be careful because we’re going to hit people. I don’t care if I get suspended because I need to protect my players.”

The White Sox have been hit by pitches 45 times this season, fifth in the majors. The Indians have been hit 65 times, most in the majors.

Rolen re-evaluated

Reds third baseman Scott Rolen was evaluated in Cincinnati for concussion-like symptoms and will remain inactive for several more days until his symptoms have improved.

Rolen was scratched from Saturday’s starting lineup against the San Francisco Giants and then sent home to be examined by concussion specialist Dr. John Brannan. He was hit in the head by a pitch from former teammate Jason Marquis in the seventh inning of the Reds’ game against the Colorado Rockies on Aug. 2.

Reds deal Weathers

The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired Cincinnati right-hander David Weathers for a player to be named later.

Weathers pitched one inning and got the win in Friday’s 10-5 comeback win over San Francisco.

The 39-year-old reliever starts his second stint with Milwaukee. He previously pitched for the Brewers from 1998-2001.

Clearing the bases

Red Sox slugger Jason Bay was back in the lineup Sunday night against the New York Yankees after missing three games with a hamstring injury, ending the Kevin Youkilis adventure in left field. … Colorado right-hander Aaron Cook will skip his scheduled start Tuesday because the Rockies are concerned their No. 1 starter’s jammed right big toe might become a lingering problem. … The Oakland Athletics selected left-hander Jay Marshall from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday and sent down right-hander Clayton Mortensen.
