U-Hi defends league title

The University High School American Legion A team defended their league title by defeating the West Kootenay Diamondbacks 8-5 in the championship game at Shadle Park.

The Titans finished 29-10 on the season and took fifth place at the American Legion State Tournament at Moses Lake last week.

Players included Armando Garza, Derek Walker, Michael Schwenk, Trevor Mitchem, Henry Holm, Ryan Hawley, Austin Sturgis, Connor Klein, Mitchell Kinney, Cameron Chase, Ryan Sutherland, Andrew Stacey, Tim McBroom and Richie Toles. The coaches were Brandon Shryock and Brock Crawford.

• VAA won the SYSA baseball championship (16-and-older division).

Players are Spencer Olsulka, Ross Leu, Kyle Barker, Geoff Davis, Forrest Nelson, JP Mosher, Jon McIntosh, Will Cornwell, Daytona Neff, Jake McNitt, Chris Dempsey, Kevin Howerton, Charlie Coffin and Brian Davis.

The team was coached by Neil Sodorff and Charles Cornwell.

Golf

Zach Wanderscheid of Goldendale shot a 3-under 69 to lead after the first round of the 36-hole stroke play qualifying portion of the PNGA Junior Boys’ Amateur Championship at the University of Idaho golf course.

Michael Baldeck of Clarkston and Taylor Judy of Meridian, Idaho, are tied for fourth place at 1-under 71. Alex Pounds of Coeur d’Alene and Shaun Hill of Moscow are a stroke behind them at even-par 72.
