National park entrance fees waived this weekend

SEATTLE — Entrance fees at national parks across the country, including Mount Rainier and Olympic, will be waived this weekend, Aug. 15-16.

Mount Rainier Acting Superintendent Randy King says the fee-free weekend, the third this summer, is to encourage Americans seeking affordable vacations to visit the national parks.

Entrance fees will be waived at the 147 sites across the country that charge for admission. The 244 other parks, such as North Cascades National Park, do not charge entrance fees.

In Washington, fees will also be waived for Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, Lewis & Clark National Historical Park and Whitman Mission National Historic Site.

Camping, overnight wilderness use and other fees still apply during the entrance fee-free weekend.
