Council made right move

The Spokesman-Review

I want to applaud the City Council’s decision to attach the two advisory measures to the Envision Spokane initiative. With such a misleading ballot title, and no voters pamphlet for guidance, the public has a right to know that Envision Spokane’s proposal isn’t tantamount to a free lunch.

Envision Spokane wants to make this move by our City Council sound controversial and is again threatening to sue our city, but similar action has been taken in the past.

I seem to recall just as recently as two years ago, a pair of advisory measures were placed on the ballot over light rail research. It’s unfortunate that Envision Spokane, after fighting to get their voice heard and on the ballot, is now seeking to silence the Spokane citizen’s ability to influence what will be a significant Council decision through an advisory vote of the people.
