Going a Miley too far?

Miley Cyrus’ provocative performance during Monday night’s “Teen Choice Awards” – in which she wore short shorts and boots and straddled a pole – has set off a firestorm on the Internet over whether the act was appropriate for a 16-year-old entertainer in front of a youthful audience.

On YouTube and Twitter, followers of the Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana” debated whether Cyrus was doing a pole dance or just hanging on to it for balance.

Some found her sultry routine over the top for the Fox awards show, which attracted 4 million viewers – more than a quarter of whom were under age 18, according to Nielsen ratings.

Cyrus’ publicist and the Disney Channel declined comment.

This is not the first time the teen performer has been at odds with the image of the chaste pop star she portrays on TV.

A 2008 Vanity Fair photograph of Cyrus draped in a satin sheet, her bare back and shoulders exposed, drew similar criticism.

Son worship

On the celebrity baby beat, 27-year-old Grammy- and Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson has given birth to her first child, David Daniel Otunga Jr., named after her fiance.

And “The View” co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck is the mother of a third child, a boy.

He’s Brooks, they’re done

Finally, in case you hadn’t heard, country music duo Brooks and Dunn are calling it quits.

“This ride has been everything and more than we could ever have dreamed,” Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn said on their Web site, adding: “If you hear rumors, don’t believe them, it’s just time.”

They will release a greatest-hits album Sept. 8 and tour one last time in 2010.
