Spokane duo sixth


Spokane’s Peter Gullickson and Chessey Thomas both finished in sixth place Thursday at the American Junior Golf Association Junior in East Wenatchee, Wash.

Gullickson fired a 2-under-par 70 at Wenatchee Golf & Country Club to move up from 15th place. He finished three rounds at 1-over 217, four shots behind winner Macgregor Hoobery of Santa Maria, Calif.

Thomas had a final-round 8-over 80 to finish at 12-over 228. Seo Hee Moon of Mukilteo, Wash., who led each round, won with a 219.

•Coeur d’Alene’s Alex Pounds lost in the quarterfinals of match play at the PNGA Junior Boys Amateur Championship at the University of Idaho Golf Course in Moscow.

Carl Jonson of Bainbridge Island, Wash., defeated Pounds 5 and 4.


Northwest Conference coaches have selected Whitworth for fourth place in their preseason poll.

The Pirates, 7-9 in conference and 14-14 overall last season, received 52 points in the poll, four behind third-place Linfield.

Defending champion Pacific Lutheran received six first-place votes and 84 points in the poll. Puget Sound is the No. 2 selection.
