Compare health care to policing

The Spokesman-Review

There’s a lot of fear going around about the idea of “government-run” health care. Opponents claim we’ll get a horrible system with long lines and poor service. They claim that our choice of doctors or treatments will be limited.

Let me ask you something: How would you feel if you had to go get private “police insurance”? Would you support having to go and pick a plan, maybe one that emphasized property crimes but didn’t have much general drug enforcement? Would you like to decide whether or not you could afford to have a kidnapping provision on your plan, in case one of your children was abducted? Maybe you could pick a plan that only had a $1,000 deductible for criminal investigations? How about a $500 out-of-pocket for actual criminal prosecution?

There are some things that simply should not be run by private corporations. Health insurance is one of them.

Yes, there are not enough doctors. Yes, we are going to have to pay for it all somehow. Rather than seeing impossible obstacles, we need to just see them as tasks to complete.

We’re all in this together. Cowboy up and let’s get this done.
