Sun brings back August heat

Hot, sunny weather with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s returns to the Inland Northwest today and is likely to continue through the weekend. Highs today should reach 91 in downtown Spokane, 87 in Airway Heights and Spokane Valley and 88 in Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene. High elevation clouds will not be thick enough to slow solar heating. Southwest winds to 10 mph with gusts to 20 mph are possible this evening. The current warm weather should peak on Thursday when highs move into the middle and upper 90s across the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene areas. A strong high pressure system off the Pacific coast is predicted to move onshore today and then migrate eastward into North Idaho by Thursday. A weak frontal system bringing some clouds on Friday should help moderate temperatures back into the 80s for most locations on Friday through Monday. At 7 a.m., temperatures were again mild with 60 at Spokane International Airport, 61 in Coeur d’Alene and 58 in Pullman. It was cooler in Sandpoint at 54 and Deer Park at 53.
