Armed patriots made us free

The Spokesman-Review

I had to respond to E.C. Guise’s letter, “Stop the worrying,” of Aug. 9. An armed citizen forces people in government positions to carefully contemplate what is truly best for our country. We can’t allow them to go off the “deep end” like they did in Russia in 1917, Germany in 1936, Spain in 1933, etc., not to mention many countries today in the Third World. What about Iran? North Korea?

Would you describe those brave men on Lexington Green on April 19, 1775, as terrorists? They fought the British police and army. If we lost the war, they would’ve been branded terrorists, but we won, and they are patriots. That’s the thin line between patriots and terrorists. Sadly, today’s terrorists also knowingly take innocent lives, which further differentiates the two.
