Detectives investigate death of boy, 4

Spokane County sheriff’s detectives are investigating the death of 4-year-old boy who may have fallen from the back of a truck near Mount Spokane Wednesday. The boy and his family, whose names are not being released, were gathering firewood near North Wallis Road and East Elliot Road in northeast Spokane County when the incident occurred, said Sgt. Dave Reagan. The boy “reportedly fell from a truck onto a pile of wood” and died of internal injuries, but detectives are sifting through conflicting witness accounts, Reagan said. The boy’s father called 911 while en route to a fire station at North Market Street and East Farwell Road about 6 p.m. No one has been arrested, and detectives continue to interview witnesses, Reagan said.
