In brief: Group offers homeownership classes

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Community Frameworks HomeStarts homeownership program will provide information regarding the homeownership process and opportunities during meetings Aug. 31, Sept. 24 and Sept. 30. All meetings are at 5:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

The Aug. 31 meeting will be held at the Argonne Branch Library, 4322 N. Argonne Road. The Sept. 24 and Sept. 30 meetings will be at the Spokane Valley Branch Library, 12004 E. Main Ave.

The meetings will provide information about homeownership, down payment assistance, classes about credit, money management and mortgage basics, and credit and debt counseling.

Information on homeownership opportunities at Community Frameworks’ new townhome community, Valley Pointe, will be available at each meeting.

Disc golf tournament will help woman

Northwest – The Disc Duffer Classic, a disc golf tournament to benefit Teresa Wright, the wife of Eastern State Hospital’s Rev. Ed Wright, will begin at 10 a.m. at Downriver Golf Course, 3225 N. Columbia Circle., on Sept. 12.

Wright suffered a series of strokes earlier this summer and has been at Sacred Heart Medical Center since. She faces rehab and home modifications. Proceeds from the tournament will help pay for her medical costs.

Teams of four should consist of “pseudo-expert” and two to three “disc golfers” new to the flying disc-based game.

Prizes will be awarded.

Cost for the tournament is $20 per team prior to Sept. 10. Cost after Sept 10 is $25 per team.
