Baseball, softball seasons wrap up

American On-Site Services (Pasadena Park) denied teams from Liberty Lake a sweep and perfect seasons during the Spokane Valley Baseball championship games Aug. 1.

In the opener of two championship games, American On-Site (12-2), seeded No. 2 in the Midget League, scored early and often for a 10-3 victory over Spokane Athletic Supply (13-1).

Liberty Lake Pee Wee team Blasingame Insurance capped a 14-0 season with a 7-4 victory over 13-2 Leo’s Photography (Sunrise 2) for the title in the second game of the doubleheader at West Valley.

Midget: The Pasadena crew rendered the outcome academic by building an 8-0 lead two innings into the title game. Michael Chan and Ross Vermillion each singled twice and scored when the team tallied three times in the first inning and five more after two were out in the second.

Leadoff batter Ryan Hunter also had two hits and scored three runs in four at bats. Gunner Cebriak had singles in each of the first two innings.

Spokane Athletic had but two base runners through four innings of the six-inning game, starting pitcher Austin Stevens allowing one hit and facing only one batter over the minimum. Ethan Frazier finished with both Liberty Lake hits during the game.

American On-Site team members are Chan, Vermillion, Hunter, Cebriak, Stevens, Bennet Moore, Mark Oestreich, Conner Stavnes, Braxton Swenson, Casey Briggs, Tanner Chase, Jacob Presho, Triston Collins and Joshuwa Foster.

Pee Wee: First three batters, Gage Engel, Zach Stocker and Spencer Fall, reached base and scored for Blasingame Insurance and the team stretched its lead to 5-0 in the third and 7-1 through five. The trio scored six times (two each).

Starting pitcher Patrick Parelius retired the first eight batters he faced, striking out five. All told, a dozen Leo’s Photography batters went down on strikes.

Liberty Lake team members are Engel, Stocker, Fall, Parelius, Mitchell Axtell, Michael Duty, Brayden Hamilton, Benjamin Herndon, Dalton Liesse, Ben Norin, Mason Scott, Connor Seimears and Kyle Van Liew.

Softball tourney champs

For the most part, winning teams in the Spokane Valley Girls Softball Association tournaments at the beginning of the month went through their double-elimination brackets without a loss.

Home Run Construction swept the 16U tournament, Estorebyzome did so in the 14U playoffs and Sir Speedy ran the table in 12U, each finishing 4-0. Only Sir Speedy had been a regular-season division champion, sharing with Old Country Buffet, the tournament runner-up.

In 10U, Awardmasters captured the championship, 28-27 over McDonald’s in a game between tournament divisional victors.

16U: Home Run Construction (11-3) outscored the opposition 38-9 en route to the title, beating Tri Diamond 15-2, BNSF 10-0, stopping regular season winner Farrell Spray Services 8-3 in the semifinal and edging BNSF, which had won twice in the loser’s bracket, 5-4 for the title.

14U: Estorebyzome (10-3) had finished fourth during the regular season, but had a 56-20 scoring advantage in its perfect tournament. The team beat Western Family 16-4, blanked second-seed Jewell Excavating 6-0, and topped Woodcraft 14-9 in the semifinals and 20-7 in the finals. Fifth-seeded Woodcraft upset Baker Construction 10-6 and previously unbeaten Old Country Buffet twice in its journey to the title game.

12U: Sir Speedy (12-2) won twice by a run during its title run. The team beat Fast Track Performance 21-7, edged Farrell Spray Services 10-9, Mega Wash 8-7 and 13-10 for the title.

10U: Awardmasters (12-3), one of three teams that entered the tournament with two losses, came through the loser’s bracket in Division 1 to claim top seed over eventual third-place Myers Drywall and outscored McDonald’s by a run for the title. McDonald’s (11-3) topped Summit Electric 19-2, Osprey 15-12, Sir Speedy 23-19 and Osprey again 20-19 to win its division. In the game for third and fourth, Myers Drywall also won by a run, 13-12 over Osprey.
